Woody fragrances are my favourite olfactory family. I'll admit it plainly, because honesty is the foundation of any curation worthy of the name. When someone asks me what I personally wear, the answer is almost always a woody. Not because it's the most spectacular, but because it's the most true — the most skin-like, the most timeless.

This selection reflects a personal conviction: the best woody fragrances are those that disappear as artifice and feel like a natural extension of the person wearing them.

What Defines a Woody Fragrance?

A woody fragrance is built on dry, warm, natural notes: sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, patchouli, guaiac, oud. These are among the oldest raw materials in perfumery — materials that have been used for thousands of years in ritual, medicine, and adornment.

In modern perfumery, woody fragrances have evolved considerably. They now cross with orientals (woody-oriental), with aromatics (woody-aromatic), with musks (woody-musky) — each combination creating a distinct character.
